Javea.Legal
Javea.Legal is a local project by Expat Abogados, created to offer independent legal and tax advice for international clients buying, selling, inheriting, or managing property in Jávea (Xàbia) and the wider Marina Alta. We are in Jávea every week, at the notary, the town hall and the property, and the town sits right between our two offices in Moraira and Dénia.
The project combines long-standing local experience, practical international client support, and a modern way of explaining legal and tax matters clearly. The result is a firm that feels both established and accessible.
1991
The Moraira office
In 1991, Juan Bertomeu opened the Moraira office at Calle del Dr. Calatayud, in the heart of the town. From the beginning, the work was closely linked to international clients looking for clear legal guidance in property matters, non resident tax obligations, inheritance procedures, and the practical steps involved in owning property in Spain.
Over the years, the Moraira office became a trusted point of contact for clients from the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Poland, the United States, and other international backgrounds. Many of those clients bought in Jávea, which sits just up the coast: well over 100 completed purchases in Jávea over the years. The common thread has always been the same: serious legal advice, local understanding, and a direct relationship with the lawyer handling the matter.
2024
A second office in Dénia
In 2024, the firm expanded with a second office in central Dénia, located at Calle Ramón y Cajal 5E, Oficina 1. This step made it possible to serve a wider range of international clients across the Marina Alta, the wider province of Alicante, and selected matters beyond the immediate area. For Jávea, it means the town now sits between our two offices, 15 to 25 minutes from either one.
While Moraira remains a core part of the identity of the project, the Dénia office reflects the natural growth of a practice that now supports clients across a broader geographical area, including parts of the Balearic Islands, Almería, and other relevant destinations connected to property and cross-border tax matters.
The Modern Generation
Modern legal communication, same serious standards
Javea.Legal also reflects a newer way of presenting legal and tax services to international clients. Daniel Bertomeu has helped shape that direction by combining legal training, advanced tax focus, and a strong ability to explain complex issues clearly through serious, informative content.
Before joining this project, Daniel worked at Ospina Abogados, one of Spain's best known criminal law firms. His later decision to return to the Costa Blanca and focus on international property and tax matters brought a modern layer to the firm: not a change in seriousness, but a clearer way of communicating what clients really need to know before they buy, sell, move, or plan.
This modern approach sits on top of a traditional legal foundation. The goal is not to simplify reality, but to make the right legal and tax decisions easier to understand.
